My art illuminates the beauty of the natural world by capturing the light, color and forms through watercolor and printmaking. I gather images and knowledge about my subject through plein air sketching and photography, then develop the painting by building layers of transparent pigments. As a lifelong swimmer and watercolorist, I have always been drawn to water, to the sea and to edges where land meets ocean or stream. I find tremendous inspiration in the diverse life and landforms on Lopez Island, be it the salt marsh, rocky coastline or historical barns.
I studied art education at the University of Washington and dedicated my career to teaching art to young people in the Seattle Public Schools, Seattle Country Day, and the UW Summer Day Program. In 2013, I opened a private art studio in Magnuson Park where I work on my art and teach art programs for adults. Over the past 15 years, I have lead painting retreats in Washington, New Mexico, and Provence, France. In 2023, I joined the faculty at Gage Art Academy where I teach watercolor landscape painting.
